As a self-proclaimed bacon, egg + cheese connoisseur, more commonly known as Julia, I’ve been scouring the Lowcountry for the past two years following my move here from the suburbs of Philadelphia in search of the perfect sandwich. My favorite aspect of B.E.C.’s is that the possibilities are endless. The variety of breads that they come on, the type of cheese + how the eggs are prepared makes every sandwich different. With that said, not all bacon, egg + cheeses are created equal, and I’m here to give you the lowdown on my favorite B.E.C.’s in the Lowcountry.

Beardcat’s Sweet Shop, 2063 Middle St., Sullivans Island (below sister restaurant, The Obstinate Daughter)

Beardcat’s Sweet Shop does more than just sweets, also serving up gourmet sandwiches such as this savory bacon, egg + cheese served with gruyere cheese, scrambled eggs, and bacon on a buttery croissant. Captain Beardcat himself – aka Frenchman Louis Coulon to which the shop is named after – would approve of this french inspired, locally-sourced breakfast sandwich. Perfect for popping in before a day at the beach. 💰: $9.50

Miller’s All Day, 120 King St.

If you’ve had the chance to stop by this trendy lower King St. brunch spot, it should be no surprise that this B.E.C. made the cut. This sammy comes with white cheddar cheese, bacon, herb mayo + scrambled eggs from Storey Farms layered between an everything brioche bun from Saffron Bakery. Having trouble leaving your bed after a long night? Miller’s All Day is available for delivery through UberEats. Pro-tip: pair with a side home fries + dip the B.E.C. in the M.A.D sauce that accompanies. 💰: $9.50

Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit, 476 ½ King St. + 188 Meeting St.

With two locations on upper King St. + in the Charleston City Market, Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit has become both a well known tourist destination + locals haven. Featured in The New York Times, The Oprah Magazine, Southern Living, USAtoday + more, the biscuits themselves aren’t the only praiseworthy items on the menu. Opt for the bacon, egg + cheddar cheese to complete the true Callie’s experience. If you’ve ever seen the line extended way out the door at the upper King St. location, don’t worry – they now have the option to order ahead online + are available for delivery through UberEats. You also have the chance to grab your biscuit breakfast sandwich late night from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday + Saturday nights. 💰: $7.95

Circe’s Grotto, 85 Wentworth St.

Recently named the best sandwich shop in South Carolina by MSN, Circe’s panini-style bacon, egg + cheddar cheese lives up to the title. This family owned business originated on the South Shore of Boston + expanded into the Lowcountry back in 2014. This sandwich is served on your choice of EVO bakery semolina (pictured), bagel, tortilla or naan bread. If the generous portions don’t sell you (I have yet to successfully finish this B.E.C. in one sitting), the crunchy, cheesy + savory taste will seal the deal. 💰: $6.75

The Rarebit, 474 King St.

I have little self control when it comes to not stopping by The Rarebit after a night out on King St. to grab a bite of their breakfast selection served until 1 a.m. This upscale diner on Upper King serves a classic bacon, egg + cheddar cheese on Texas Toast all day + night. Be sure to pair with a side of hand-cut French fries or breakfast potatoes to complete the dish, and maybe even one of their Charleston famous moscow mules. 💰: $8

Eli’s Table, 129 Meeting St.

Eli’s Table’s bacon, egg + cheese is ripe up your alley with the addition of avocado on this breakfast sandwich. It’s served on a croissant with cherry smoked bacon, your choice of eggs, cheddar cheese + breakfast potatoes until 3 p.m. everyday of the week. Known mainly for their highly acclaimed dinner service, they don’t fall short when it comes to breakfast. Enjoy your B.E.C. on the gorgeous patio or in the comfort of their French-inspired dining room. 💰: $13

Some of you haven’t had a breakfast sandwich from a deli in New York, and it shows. With a striking number of sandwich options on the menu, I still find myself ordering the classic bacon, egg + cheese on a bagel every weekend. Yes every weekend- it’s that good. This particular breakfast sandwich hits the spot for my Yankee taste buds as owner Shannon Campbell came to the Lowcountry from Connecticut to deliver the sandwiches that we didn’t know we needed. 💰: $4.75

Bagel Nation, 520 Folly Rd., James Island + 1975 Magwood Dr., West Ashley

With a name like Bagel Nation, the hype surrounding these freshly baked bagels is real. The “Egglewich Deluxe” includes an egg topped with melted American cheese + bacon . Skip your Starbucks run on the way and try one of their 15 different flavors of freshly brewed coffee. This beloved bagel spot is no secret, as you can normally expect a long line upon arrival, so calling ahead is a must if you’re on the go. 💰: $5.50

The Co-Op, 2019 Middle St., Sullivans Island

When the Co-Op isn’t dishing up hilarious Instagram captions, they’re serving up one of the best B.E.C.’s in Charleston. Their meat-lovers sandwich consisting of two fried eggs, bacon + cheddar on a kaiser roll is designed to cure the worst of hangovers, start your morning on the right foot + satisfy your wildest bacon, egg + cheese dreams. Need something to take the edge off? It’s never too early to drink “Charleston’s best Frosé” at the Co-Op. 💰: $7

The Junction Kitchen & Provisions is a certified locals favorite. Serving breakfast all day long, they offer extraordinary B.E.C. options such as their “Not Yo Mamacita’s Burrito,” consisting of scrambled eggs, swiss cheese, coffee rubbed bacon with sweet potato chips, white balsamic drizzle + a side of honey jalapeno chutney. If you’re sticking to the basics, their classic B.E.C. is sure to do the trick. 💰: $6
