Local fundraisers + drives to help those affected by COVID-19

Good morning, Charleston, Katie here. One of the things I love the most about this city is the desire the community has to lend a helping hand to those in need. No matter if it’s day-to-day or during major disasters like hurricanes, there is a constant flood of generosity + support.

During a time like this, we see it more than ever. Even as we are being encouraged to adhere to social distancing protocol + stay in our homes, the longing to help and give back as much as possible has not diminished.

From curiosity about how to continue to support local businesses to questions of how we can help healthcare providers + medical professionals, we can see the love our community has by the questions we have been receiving from readers regarding ways to give back.

If you are looking for ways to make a positive impact, here are some local relief funds + drives that are seeking donations:

COVID-19 Relief & Recovery Fund
Led by Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina
Donations will provide flexible resources to Charleston + eight other Lowcountry counties. Priority groups include senior citizens, children, health-compromised + hospitality and tourism industry workers.

Tri-County COVID-19 Response Fund
Led by Trident United Way + The Post and Courier
Donations will be used to aid nonprofits + emergency networks in the Tri-County, as well as supporting community financial hardships due to loss of work because of COVID-19.

One SC Fund
○ Partnered with SC Grantmakers Network, TogetherSC, and the United Way Association of SC to respond to statewide food, shelter, health and nonprofit sustainability needs occurring as a result of COVID-19.
○ Make a financial contribution here.

One 80 Place- COVID-19 Response Fund
○ One 80 Place serves the homeless community by offering food and shelter to those in need. During this time, they will need to move clients to prevent the spread of the virus.
○ Make a financial contribution here, which will go to keeping the homeless safe.

Feeding Our Heroes Fund
○ A group of friends are collecting money to feed Roper St. Francis + MUSC Health workers and help support local restaurants.
○ Make a financial contribution by email or by checking here for a list of people to venmo.

“Full Belly, Full Hearts”
○ Hosted by Charleston Hospitality Group
○ Donated hot meals will be available every day at Toast (all four locations) from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. for hospitality workers, their families + frontline first responders.
○ One meal per day (breakfast, lunch or dinner) can be picked up or delivered.

Our Lady Mercy Food Drive
○ In need of canned goods, juices, pasta and cereal.
○ Drop donations off Monday- Friday 9-11a.m. at 77 & 79 America St. (downtown) or 1684 Brownswood Rd., Johns Island.
○ Make a financial contribution here or by mailing a check to PO Box 607 Johns Island, SC 29457, which will go towards purchasing additional food needed for the soup kitchen.

Rent Sons- “No Need Among Us” Fund
○ Rent Sons is offering to run errands for donations only, while continuing to pay employees their full hourly rate.
○ Make a financial contribution to the “No Need Among Us” fund to keep employees paid.
○ Rent Sons is also temporarily hiring those who are out of work or school during this time. Apply here.

MUSC Supply Drive- #herosneedmasks
○ In need of items such as face shields, Isopropyl alcohol 70% or greater, empty and clean spray bottles, rubber bands etc.
○ Find specifications, full donation list, and ways you can make donatable items here.
○ Drop off donations Monday- Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at 4295 Arco Ln. More donation locations here.

Roper St. Francis Supply Drive
○ In need of items such as gloves, gowns, hand sanitizer, bleach wipes etc.
○ Find specifications and full donation list here.
Cannot accept 3D printed items including ventilator parts, perishable food, blankets, medication, or handmade fabric masks.
○ Drop off donations Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at 9165 University Blvd., Suite 200.

Charleston Hope Food & Supply Drive
○ Partnered with Charleston County School District, local churches & institutions to distribute food and goods to local neighborhoods, organizations, and food pantries.
○ Purchase items from Amazon wishlist.
○ Make a financial contribution which Charleston Hope will use to purchase items to be donated to the community.

Tricounty Family Ministries Food & Supply Drive
○ In need of non-perishable food items, toiletries, feminine hygiene, and cleaning supplies.
Cannot accept clothing donations at this time.
○ Drop off donations Tuesdays 10:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. at 2105 Cosgrove Ave., North Charleston.

Helping Hands of Goose Creek Food Drive
○ In need of cereal, canned soups, grits, canned meat, rice etc.

○ Drop off donations Monday-Friday 9-11:15 a.m. at 104 B Commerce Pl., Goose Creek. Call before arriving.
○ Make a financial contribution here.

East Cooper Community Outreach Food & Supply Drive
○ In need of pasta, rice, cereal, bar soap, shampoo/conditioner and toilet paper.
○ Drop off donations in blue bins Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 145 Six Mile Rd., Mt.Pleasant
○ Purchase items from Amazon wishlist.

Lowcountry Blessings Box Project
○ Help stock local Blessing Boxes with non-perishable food items, basic toiletries, and baby supplies.

Charleston Jewish Family Services Emergency Financial Aid Fund
○ Serves to help families in the service, tourism, counseling, retail, creative arts, and healthcare fields that are struggling due to the economic effects of the virus.

Junior League of Charleston Diaper Drive
○ In need of diapers sizes newborn, 3, 4, 5, 6.
○ Drop off donations Monday- Friday 8 a.m.- 4p.m. at 51 Folly Rd.

Trident Area Agency on Aging Senior Supply Drive
○ Drop off donations Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at 5895 Core Rd., North Charleston.

MUSC Health resource drive
○ Led by MUSC Health
○ MUSC Health curated a list of facility needs – from food to masks + gloves.

Animal adoption + fostering
○ Local shelters are in dire need of forever homes + foster parents for animals.

Local musician charity performances
○ Led by Moranz Entertainment
○ With the cancellation of Moranz Entertainment + various shows at the Charleston Music Hall, Brad + Jennifer Moranz are releasing weekly musical performances via GoFundMe.
○ Free to stream, donations encouraged (all donations will be given to those who are entirely dependent on performing for income.)

Student board rebate donations
○ Led by Charleston Southern University
Residential CSU will be receiving probated board rebates for the Spring 2020 semester (details here).

“Five & Two” drive in support of Pakistan
Led by the Cross Connecting Network(founded by two Charleston locals) + the Association of Related Churches
People are asked to donate $5, which will feed one person in Pakistan for one week, and share the cause with two friends.
