When most people think of Charleston, they typically picture King Street, Rainbow Row or the Pineapple Fountain. However, with just a quick trip over the Ravenel Bridge, you can explore a different (+ equally as entertaining) section of the Lowcountry: Mount Pleasant. 🌴
A winner of the National Civic League’s All-America City Awards in 2010, the town continues to grow in popularity, now gaining recognition as one of South Carolina’s must-see spots. From sprawling parks + historical sites to unbeatable waterfront dining, Mount Pleasant has something for everyone, whether you’re a first-time tourist or a longtime local.
Below is our guide to the perfect day in Mt. P, so that next time you’re in town, you’ll know just where to go and what to see.
Begin your morning with brunch at Page’s Okra Grill (302 Coleman Blvd.), the winner of several awards such as the Post and Courier’s 2019 Best Brunch and Best Breakfast. The very extensive menu includes mouthwatering, classic dishes like biscuits + gravy and steak + eggs, as well as Lowcountry specialties like crab cake eggs benedict and the crispy fried oyster + shrimp frittata. 🍳
Next, head on over to the Pitt Street Bridge. Dating all the way back to the 1860s, this bridge has been by Mt. Pleasant’s side through thick + thin – including the Civil War and several hurricanes. It once acted as a connector between Sullivan’s Island + Mt. Pleasant, but it now serves the purpose of leisure, good views and even better times. Stop by to fish from the pier, take your pup for a walk or snap pictures of the Charleston peninsula. 🎣

Afterwards, take a short trip to Patriots Point, home of the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum (40 Patriots Point Rd.) and the USS Yorktown, an aircraft carrier used in World War II. The museum also features a Cold War Memorial, Medal of Honor Museum + Vietnam Experience Exhibit. Nearby, you can also play a round of golf at Patriots Point Links (1 Patriots Rd.) or catch a soccer game at the Charleston Battery stadium (85 Patriots Rd.). 🚢
When lunchtime rolls around, you’ll want to make your way over to the Charleston Harbor Fish House (32 Patriots Point Rd.), a waterfront restaurant offering to-die-for seafood dishes like the tuna poke bowl or grilled mahi tacos. Snag a seat on the deck for a view of the Cooper River, USS Yorktown + Ravenel Bridge. 🐠

After a relaxing lunch, consider spending the afternoon at Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens, where there’s always something exciting happening. Each season offers special events, like the springtime Lowcountry Strawberry Festival, fall sunflower + pumpkin patches or the bone-chilling October Fright Nights, but there are also a host of daily activities and educational resources that allow visitors to explore the grounds and take guided tours that address the plantation’s history of slavery + cash crops. 🌻
Finally, to wind down the day, we recommend dinner + drinks out at Shem Creek. With little lights strung across the patio, space heaters and the most brilliant view of the water, the atmosphere at Tavern & Table (100 Church St.) cannot be beat during any time of year. Indulge in classic, Southern appetizers like pimento cheese & bacon jam or a skillet of cornbread. Then, we dare the entire group to take on the Seafood Tower – a daunting entree featuring oysters, chilled shrimp, a whole lobster, crab + a selection of fish. 🦀
