Hey, CHS — Michaela here. 👋 I recently joined the Columbia Museum of Art (CMA) in Columbia, SC for a celebration of Black music. More Than Rhythm: A Black Music Series dives into the history, evolution, and influence of Black music across all genres.
Featured artist Adia Victoria spoke about her journey to discovering the blues and leaning into her identity as a Southern Black woman. The conversation was followed by a performance of Victoria’s original poetry with guitarist Mason Hickman featuring dance interpretations by Columbia-based dancer Erin Bailey.
Here’s more on the series + how you can Try This.
What we tried (with pricing):
I reserved my spot in advance on the CMA’s website — although admission is free, attendees must RSVP to secure a spot. The galleries and cash bar open at 6 p.m., which gives guests a chance to explore the museum, grab a beer or glass of wine (~$5), and mingle before the event.
Plans for a 150-room hotel and three apartment buildingshave been presented for the third phase of the property at 860 Morrison Dr. at Morrison Yard. Hotel plans feature a first-floor lobby, café + kitchen, plus a conference center and dining on the top floor. 🏗️ (The Post and Courier)

We’re loving the truck’s design. | Screenshot via @tacoboychs
Have you heard? Taco Boy’s new food truck has hit the streets. As self-proclaimed guac aficionados, we’re loving the “always extra guac” design. 🥑
Grab your favorite Mexican street corn, buttermilk fried chicken, and tempura shrimp dishes on the go at the Taco Truck. View the full food truck menu.
The best part? You can even bring the truck to you. Dorchester High School District Two has already booked the truck for all home football games, and you could be next. We’re looking at you, event organizers.
Editor’s pick: In high school, Moe’s Southwest Grill’s free queso day was like a pseudo-holiday. I vividly remember coordinating an after-school visit with my friends(who could drive at the time, at least) and looking forward to it all day long.
Therefore, it’s only fitting that I relay the news of this year’s free queso day to you all, so you can join in on the tradition. Head to any Moe’s location for a free side with no purchase necessary on Tues., Sept. 20. I usually head to the Long Point Road location, but you may opt to head to another local spot.
Heads up: You can also get a free side with a $6+ purchase in the app. (WCBD)
