Yesterday, the City of Charleston shared that the National Weather Service has issued a storm surge watch + a tropical storm watch in Charleston County as officials continue to monitor Hurricane Ian. A two-to-four foot storm surge is anticipated in the next 48 hours.
Here’s what we know.
In a briefing yesterday afternoon, Governor McMaster stated that no evacuation plans have been activated + no state of emergency has been declared as of 4:30 p.m.
Starting this evening, we mayexperience high tides + flooding. Six to eight inches of rainfall is forecast between Wednesday and Sunday, though this may vary. Anticipate possible gusty winds Wednesday night-Friday.
A limited number of free sand and bags will be available today from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. (up to 10 per residence) at the locations below for residents to build their own sandbags. Bringing a shovel is suggested for assembly.

Local full-service site design firm SeamonWhiteside has completed the design for the sustainability-focused, mixed-use community Morrison Yard Apartments on the Upper Peninsula.
The 4.6-acre property features sixlinearrain gardens to catch stormwater + pervious pavers to reduce storm runoff. Additionally, Morrison Yard Apartments will feature bike ramps, outdoor workstations, and a trail connection to the multi-use trail over the Ravenel Bridge from Charleston to Mount Pleasant.
