4 tips for financing a new car

Raise your hand if buying a car feels intimidating. ✋

Most of us will need a new set of wheels at some point, and there’s a good chance that you’ll need some type of financing to drive off the lot. If it’s your first time looking into an auto loan, here are 4 tips to make it smooth sailing… or shall we say, driving.

South Carolina Federal Credit Union can also help first-time car buyers find a good deal on auto insurance | Photo via Unsplash

1. Assess your financial situation. 💸

One piece of advice you’ll hear a lot: Put 20% down, and use financing for the rest. But according to the advisors at South Carolina Federal Credit Union, suggested down + monthly payment amounts vary depending on your individual situation — something that advisors can help you determine.

Pro tip: Not sure what you can afford? Use this Car Affordability Calculator to figure it out.

Plan Ahead

  • Ring in 2022 on Folly Beach with the New Year’s Eve Flip Flop Drop & Fireworks Show — on the evening of Dec. 31, a huge pair of sparkling flip flops will descend above Center Street at the stroke of midnight, followed by a fireworks show on the beach. 🩴
  • Plunge into the new year + celebrate a famous Charlestonian on Jan. 1, 2022 with the Bill Murray Look-a-Like Polar Bear Plunge. Dress as your favorite Bill Murray character, head to Tides Folly Beach Hotel, and leap into the chilly surf for a chance to win a prize. 🧊

Health

  • Take a deep breath, unclench your jaw, and relax your shoulders. Taking time for ourselves to check in with our bodies and release tension is so important. Ready to take it a step further? Check out these benefits of incorporating stretching into your day. Ⓟ

Biz

  • There’s a reason over 3 million people start their day with Morning Brew, the daily email that delivers the latest news from Wall Street to Silicon Valley. Morning Brew knows how to keep readers informed + entertained — for free. Check it out. Ⓟ

Correction

  • Aw, shucks. Yesterday, we included the Lowcountry Oyster Festival in our daily conversation, but stated that the event would be held on Feb. 26 instead of Feb. 6. We are thrilled that the event is happening during the first weekend in February instead of the last + can’t wait to get shuckin’.

The Big Apple in the Holy City 🍎

@hazelandapple_charleston

This is the façade of a new bar coming early next year to King Street, next to Prohibition. NYC-based Irish pub Dead Rabbit, twice named the World’s Best Bar, plans to open a sister concept called Hazel and Apple with an 80-person back patio.

The space at 549 King St. is currently occupied by Bonny’s, a temporary bar opened by the Prohibition team. Hazel and Apple is in the approval and permit stage and aims to begin construction in the fall.
