Google Arts & Culture + the International African American Museum digital collaboration

The International African American Museum (IAAM) + Google Arts & Culture launched their first collaborative digital experience , which gives participants a closer look at Sol Legare Islandan 860-acre area located on James Island.

The free, virtual exhibit utilizes interactive tools along with images, videos, artwork + artifacts that showcase the rare, surviving example of a largely Black community in the South Carolina Sea Islands .

60+ pieces of content curated by the museum highlight Sol Legare + its residents, Civil War battles, culture events, the historic Mosquito Beach , and more.

The Seashore Farmers Lodge: Preserving the Past to Educate the Future ,” one of the available exhibits, gives visitors a glimpse of a once members-only meeting place + mutual-aid cooperative that united a thriving agricultural farming community that paved the way for similar Lowcountry organizations.

Through this partnership and digital platform, important pieces of Black + Lowcountry history will now be available globally. The inaugural virtual exhibit can be found here .
