Each year,Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is observed as a federal holiday on the third Monday of January — today, Jan. 16. The theme for this year is “Cultivating a Beloved Community Mindset to Transform Unjust Systems,” according to The King Center — a nonprofit founded by MLK’s wife, Coretta Scott King, to continue Dr. King’s legacy.

The Bennett House, a 112-year-old home at 15 Radcliffe St., was approved by the Board of Architectural Review to be relocated to 120 St. Philip St. There are plans for the home to be restored by the current owner. (The Post and Courier)
Folly Beach Pier, which recently reopened after a two-year reconstruction, will close Monday, Jan. 23for two weeks for parking lot renovations. Pier 101 will also be closed during that time. Head to the official dedication ceremony for the pier on Wednesday, March 1. 🌊

The Gaylord & Dorothy Donnelley Foundation announced the latest round of grantees under its Broadening Narrativesinitiative. Five local projects were awarded funds, including a $150,000 grant to CofC Libraries. The initiative aims to illuminate underrepresented narratives. 💸 (The College Today)
