If you’ve ever wondered how you can get involved with local efforts to keep our community in tip-top shape, this one’s for you.
From waterwayrestorationtowildlife protection, there are plenty of organizations throughout the Holy City to lend a hand. Here are eight environmental groups to have on your radar.
Charleston Waterkeeper’s mission is to protectandrestore our waterways through data-driven advocacy and stewardship. The organization hosts frequent volunteer events, from shell sortingtoseed planting.
This nature conservation organization was established in 1989 and works to protect natural resourcesanddependent wildlife featuring four program areas:

Food and Agriculture (GrowFood Carolina is the organization’s food hub)

This volunteer-based grassroots nonprofit advocates forclean water, equitable access to beaches, and naturalshoreline protection to preserve waterways, beaches, and oceans.

Biomedical waste management company EcoSteris has confirmed a Wednesday, March 1 start date for its health care waste treatment and disposal operationsin Summerville. The $6 million investment is located at 112 Fabricators St. and is said to use “clean sustainable technology.” ♻️ (Charleston Regional Business Journal)

A new300-acrepark is expected to be developed off Miles Jamison Road in Summerville. The ~$10 million project may open during the summer of 2024. 🌳 (WCBD)

In case you missed it, we recently shared an inside look at one of the Holy City’s latest upcoming restaurants: Southbound.
Introduced by the team behind Mount Pleasant restaurants Community Table and Kiki & Rye, Southbound will occupy a 2,000-sqft spaceat 72 Cannon St. Expect live-fire cooking with dishes including seasonal fish, steaks, and vegetarian options.
