Friendly competition, anyone?

With the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments kicking off, we’re joining the fun of bracket competitions with a face-off of our own.

Last year, y’all helped us name the best chicken and waffles. This year, we asked you to share your favorite brewery in Charleston. Now — thanks to you and the help of a random generator — we have the official lineup for our bracket.

Who’s in the running

Going head-to-head in the first round are:
How it works

Beginning today, we will host several voting rounds within our newsletters and social channels to determine Charleston’s best brewery. Who moves on is up to you. Vote for your favorites, and the brewery with more votes moves on. Simple as that. We’ll go until we have a champion, which will be announced in our Friday, March 31 newsletter. You will be able to vote once per round.

How to participate

Vote for the brewery you’d like to see advance to round two using this poll. You can vote for all four spots or as little as one. Once we count all the votes, we’ll share an updated bracket and new poll in an upcoming newsletter.

Want to fill out a bracket to see if you can guess who will win? Download and print the image above to take the competition up a notch. If your bracket is correct, send us a photo for a shoutout and bragging rights.

Ready to cheer your “team” to victory? Vote at the button below. ⬇️

Heads up, Holy City: Charleston Craft Beer Cruises will be hosting a celebratory cruise for each round of our March Madness bracket starting this Friday, March 17. Grab your tickets here.

Hurling for the craic

Hurling: An Ancient Irish Sport in Charleston, SC

There are many ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, but have you heard about hurling? No, not that kind of hurling. We’re talking about an Irish sport played right here in Charleston. This ancient Gaelic game is the national sport of Ireland and looks a bit like field hockey played with a baseball. Players use a wooden stick called a hurley to pass and score points. It’s the fastest field sport in the world.

How hurling got here

You may be wondering how hurling came to the Holy City. Well, you’ve got the founders of the Charleston Hurling Club, Ryan Shrum and Brendan Dagg to thank for that. Both Ryan and Brendan were new to Charleston — Ryan from Indianapolis and Brendan from Ireland — and in 2011, they teamed up to start a club.

Editor’s pick: If you’re on the hunt for a furever friend, check out these photos of a few of the pups at Dorchester Paws. The organization has partnered with local businesses to capture “some of their longer-term guests” and I am absolutely swooning over these images.

The best part? The public is invited to meet the pups at Selfie Addict Studio (127 S. Main St.) in Summerville this Thursday, March 16 at 5:30 p.m. and all I have to say is: You know where to find me. 🐾 (WCIV)
