A Seattle-based chain restaurant is coming to downtown Charleston this spring. The Matador plans to open in late April in a 4,500-sqft space at the corner of Meeting and Hasell streets. The 21+ restaurant will serve agave spirits and Mexican cuisine. (Charleston Regional Business Journal)

Today, Mayor Tecklenburg will announce the artist commissioned to paint the official city portrait of Vanessa Turner Maybank, the city’s first Director of Tourism Management and African American Clerk of Council. Charles Edward Williams will paint the portrait.

You probably know by now that I love dogs, especially pups in Charleston. But did you know there’s a famous furry friend in the Holy City? Helen and her dog Fifi relocated to the US to their new home of Charleston. This video of Fifi on the plane went viral and our city gained a little local celeb. Fun fact: Fifi will be featured on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” Catch it on Peacock when it airs.
