Calling all Summervillians. In case you didn’t hear, a 306-acre park is coming to Dorchester County and construction is underway.
Pine Trace Natural Area is located off of Miles Jamison Road in Summerville, near Eugene Sires Elementary School. The county purchased the acreage in 2011 for $2.5 million.
Residents can look forward to:
dog parks
a disc golf course
a 6-acre fishing pond
shelters
a fishing pier
a kayak launch
playgrounds
bike and pedestrian paths
an extensive trail system

Construction began in March, with funding secured from a $38 million parks capital bond referendum. The project timeline has the new park tentatively opening in mid to late summer of 2024.
