The Lowcountry Jazz Festival returns to Charleston this Labor Day Weekend

Looking to jazz up your Labor Day weekend plans? The Lowcountry Jazz Festival returns to Charleston on Saturday, Sept. 2- Sunday, Sept. 3 at the Gaillard Center.
The Charleston Gaillard Center and Closing the Gap in Health Care have partnered to present this annual festival for its 17th year.
Closing the Gap is a nonprofit whose goal is to decrease health disparities and increase health literacy for underserved communities. The festival serves as its primary fundraiser.
This year, the festival hopes to resonate with audiences of all ages by providing attendees with smooth jazz + bluesy soul. These genres will be celebrated in the heart of downtown Charleston.
One of the of the thriving cities of jazz music in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Holy City was the birthplace of many jazz musicians.
Producer Tony Clarke and the Gaillard Center’s artistic team have provided direction to showcase a lineup of award-winning jazz singers and musicians.

The new North Charleston Library Branch announced its ribbon cutting ceremony, which will be the official opening on Friday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. Located at 8620 Patriots Blvd., this new space includes study and meeting rooms, a STEAM lab, makers space + story hour.

Candlefish, a specialty candle shop on 270 King St., will have a limited-edition “happy face” design by artist Carrie Davis. The candles will be available for purchase starting Thursday, Aug. 10, and 100% of the profits will be donated to the Charleston artist community. (Holy City Sinner)
Arts
Dock Street Theatre will kick off its 46th season with “The Prom,” a Broadway musical comedy. Attendees can enjoy this show running Wednesday, Aug. 23, through Sunday, Sept. 17. Opening night admission is pay-as-you-please and is available online 24 hours before the performance. The tickets for the rest of the show range from $50 to $87.
