We are in the thick of oyster season, which means lots of oyster roasts in Charleston. Mark your calendar for one (or more) of these events. If you have an event to add to our list, let us know.

December

Annual Deck the Hall Oyster Roast | Sunday, Dec. 3 | 2 p.m. | Drayton Hall, 3380 Ashley River Rd., Charleston | $75-$95 | Feast on all-you-can-eat oysters and a chili bar while sipping local beverages — this event is 21+.

Summerville Exchange Club Oyster Roast | Saturday, Dec. 9 | 5-8 p.m. | Summerville Country Club, 400 Country Club Blvd., Summerville | $65 | This roast will benefit Summerville High School’s cheer + local youth programs

Tin Roof Oyster Roast | Sunday, Dec. 10 | 12 p.m. | Tin Roof, 1117 Magnolia Rd., Charleston | $30 -$35 | Try out this fall oyster roast with steamed oysters, mac and cheese, chili, and hot dogs.

Oysters on the Point | December-March | 2-6 p.m. | Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina, 20 Patriots Point Rd., Mount Pleasant | $10 | Catch a party on the point oyster edition; there’s live music and beach games, too.

Sunday Oyster Roast Series | December-March | 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. | Firefly Distillery, 4201 Spruill Ave., North Charleston | $35 | These events feature all-you-can-eat oysters from Chef Graham Calabria + Lowcountry Oyster Co. plus live DJs and fun drinks.

The Lowcountry Oyster Festival | Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024 | Time TBA | Boone Hall Plantation, 1235 Long Point Rd., Mount Pleasant | In its 40th year, the Lowcountry’s largest oyster festival will serve up 45,000 pounds of oysters ready to be shucked + highlights include live music, contests, a food court, and a kid’s area.

  • Dig into this. Before the team behind the former Mount Pleasant Vietnamese eatery moves to FL, they will do a pop-up at Odd Duck in Park Circle today, Dec. 1, and tomorrow, Dec. 2, from 5 until 8 p.m.

  • Rain, rain, go away. Due to the weather forecast for this weekend, the Old Village Holiday Festival will be postponed to Saturday, Dec. 16, with the same time (2-8 p.m.).

  • Longtime South Carolina Gamecocks football player Dakereon Joyner said farewell to the fan base and announced he’s declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft. Joyner spent six years on the team and is a North Charleston native, graduating from Fort Dorchester High School. (The State)

  • Dorchester School District Two was one of four school districts in SC to receive a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to ensure safety for all school buses. With the funds, the district will add more video cameras. (Charleston Regional Business Journal)
