Charleston County has received ~$3 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. HUD will divide funds among nonprofit organizations that apply and aim to improve and expand Charleston’s living conditions for those with low to moderate income. The application process ends on Friday, Jan. 5 at noon. (WCSC)
Opening
Soon you’ll be able to sip, read, and eat at Philosophers & Fools at 50 Bogard St. in Charleston (near Verns + Chubby Fish). A husband-and-wife duo plans to open the shop early next year. There will be a variety of new books, along with options for coffee, wine, beer, and snacks. (Eater Carolinas)
Traffic
Two new lanes have opened along Jack Primus to Highway 41 in the Clements Ferry Road Phase 2 project. Improvements to the road also include a multi-use path and a raised planted median. The project is set to be finished in November of next year. You can find updates here. (WCBD)
Development
The City of Charleston Design Review Board approved the conceptual design for a proposed Chick-fil-A. Plans show the fast-food chain would be located at West Ashley Circle and Floyd Drive (near the entrance of the West Ashley Walmart). A construction start date and projected opening are to be announced. (WCIV)
Award
The Nexton community was celebrated with the Gold Multi-Housing News Excellence Award in the “Best Development and Design: Mixed-Use” category. The winners were selected by a panel of judges representing expertise across all multifamily disciplines. (The Summerville Journal Scene)
Sports
Congratulations. Mount Pleasant’s Lucy Beckham Bengals brought home the AAAA high school state championship in competitive cheerleading. This was the school’s first state championship + the Charleston County School District’s first title for competitive cheer. The Bengals beat 15 other teams and went undefeated in 2023 going, 7-0 in competitions. (WCIV)

Outdoor ice skating, seasonal concessions, visits from Santa, and all in one of your favorite beach towns.
Starting Friday, Dec. 15, Folly Beach will transform part of East Arctic Avenue into “Follyday Park.” Visitors and locals alike are invited to skate on a faux ice skating rink. The area will be packed with family-friendly fun and feature Santa’s sleigh, fire pits, concessions, and holiday lights.
