The Flowertown Festival will be in full bloom this weekend in downtown Summerville, beginning today, April 5, through Sunday, April 7.

Spanning from Main Street down to Azalea Park, this three-day festival is free and will have over 200 vendors, entertainment, activities, food options, and kids rides.

Founded in 1973, this festival is celebrating 51 years and attracts thousands to the “Birthplace of Sweet Tea.” It also has become one of the largest arts + crafts festivals in the Southeast. The festival is the Summerville Family YMCA’s premiere fundraiser event.

  • Festival parking is also free.
  • Wear your comfy shoes; you’re likely to get your steps in.

  • The City of Charleston will offer a special rate for Cooper River Bridge Run participants at three downtown parking garages. Beginning today at 5 p.m. until tomorrow, Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m., participants can park their cars in the select garages for $5. (WCBD)

  • PechaKucha will return to the Charleston Music Hall on Wednesday, April 10, at 8 p.m. This show will feature eight Charleston-area individuals sharing their “inspiration, hopes, and dreams” with a fast-paced slideshow. Tickets are $15. See the lineup. (Charleston City Paper)

Speaking of the Flowertown Festival, I have fond memories as a kid of being pulled in a wagon by my mom with my siblings, riding the strawberry ride, and being in awe of the sea of people.

Nowadays, my favorite part is checking out the local artisans and food trucks.
