Celebrate Pride Month with these local events around Charleston

June is Pride Month, and there are several ways to celebrate in CHS. Keep reading for nine Pride events we’re looking forward to this month.
Teen Library Activity | Tuesday, June 4 | 3:30-4:30 p.m. | Otranto Library | Free | This teen program will be in the community room, with opportunities to paint Pride rocks, make buttons, bracelets, parfaits, and play trivia.
Pride Flag Raising |Tuesday, June 4 | 5-6 p.m. | Commonhouse Aleworks | Free | This is the kick-off event for the weeklong Park Circle Pride celebration. The Pride flag will be raised alongside LGBTQ+ organizations, and there will be a welcome speech, special guests, and entertainers.
Pride Block Party + Day Rave Dance Party | Saturday, June 8 | 2-6 p.m. | Commonhouse Aleworks | Free | LGBTQ+ organizations will be joined by a healthcare forum, vendors, a face painter, and a DJ.
Queer Adult Prom | Saturday, June 8 | 6-10 p.m. | Park Circle Community Building | $75 | This fundraising event is in its seventh year and this time, its theme is “OZMOSIS” — a celebration of the “The Wizard of Oz.”
Happier Hours|Saturday, June 8 | 9 a.m.-2 p.m. | 2301 Noisette Blvd. | Free | This event will mix movement and choir music. Attendees will start with a high-energy HIIT workout led by acclaimed NYC-based movement facilitator Ariel Padilla. Following the workout is a One-Day Choir experience led by guest facilitator Kenter Davies. No experience is necessary.
Pride Circle Pride Finale Party |Sunday, June 9 | 3 p.m. | Paddock + Whiskey + Tattooed Moose | Free |This party will feature live music, drink specials, a drag race, and contests.
Patio Party | Tuesday, June 4 | 5:30-8:30 p.m. | Park & Grove, 730 Rutledge Ave., Charleston | Price of purchase | Have a glass of your favorite wine or a cocktail and enjoy live music.
Reading Party | Tuesday, June 4 | 6-8:30 p.m. | babas, 804 Meeting St., Ste. 104, Charleston | $25-$30 | This evening is designed to make it easy for people to gather and read socially.

Charleston Farmer’s Market - West Ashley | Wednesday, June 5 | 3-7 p.m. | Ackerman, 55 Sycamore Ave., Charleston | Free | Stock up on fresh produce + shop local vendors.
Beethoven’s Third | Wednesday, June 5 | Gaillard Center, 95 Calhoun St., Charleston | Prices vary | Enjoy this program by the Spoleto Festival’s orchestra.
Thursday, June 6
Date Night - Adults Only! | Thursday, June 6 | 5-7 p.m. | Charleston Aqua Park, 3050 Marlin Rd., Johns Island | $60 | Challenge yourselves to the aqua and ropes courses and enjoy music and a fun place to unwind.
Puzzle Competition Night | Thursday, June 6 | 6-7 p.m. | Two Blokes Brewing, 547 Long Point Rd., Ste. 101, Mount Pleasant | Free | Each participating team or individual will have a 300-piece puzzle to complete and the first to finish will win a gift card.
Friday, June 7

The Works Renew, a new yoga studio, has opened at 1405 Ben Sawyer Blvd., Ste. 104. The space is the sister studio to The Works Sweat Studio + The Works Cycle and offers classes like vinyasa yoga, meditation, breathwork, and prenatal yoga. Follow along on Instagram.
History
The Charleston Museum’s Nighttime at the Museum is back, with the theme for Thursday, June 13 being, “Lights! Camera! Action!” From 6 to 8 p.m., attendees can explore the museum’s galleries by flashlight + view the collections, plus participate other activities like crafts and a scavenger hunt. Tickets range from $5-$25.
Community
Residents of James Island, Johns Island, and surrounding communities may see an increase in law enforcement presence this week. Beginning today, June 4, through Thursday, June 6, the SC Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team is holding its second annual training exercise, including search + rescue simulations near the Stono River and Charleston Harbor. Earlier this year, the Citadel announced plans to host an outdoor concert series. Now, Charleston officials say the event won’t be allowed due to residential zoning rules. Today, the Citadel will appeal the decision in a Board of Appeals. (WCIV)

Ready to laugh? Bert Kreischer’s Fully Loaded Comedy Festival will be held at The Joe on Thursday, June 13 at 7 p.m. Other comedians on the bill include Big Jay Oakerson, Dave Attell, and Chad Daniels. Get your tickets.
History
This Thursday, June 6, Patriots Point Naval + Maritime Museum will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Invasion of Normandy. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can experience living history enactors, discussions with US Navy destroyer veterans, and guest speakers. This special event is included with admission.
