Juneteenth is a holiday observed on June 19, marking the day in 1865 when federal troops entered Galveston, Texas, announcing the emancipation of enslaved people. And in 2021, it became a federal holiday.
Here are a few events to observe the holiday in the Holy City.

This inaugural parade will travel Montague Avenue through Liberty Hill and end at the CVS Pharmacy. The celebration will continue at the Felix Pinckney Center.
Celebrate freedom and community through food. Chef Rod will serve up dishes while sharing the history behind Juneteenth. Menu items include Pork Belly Sammich, jerk-style short ribs, and Charleston chewy ice cream. Pro tip: Seating is limited, so grab your spot — tickets are $55.

Participants are encouraged to pick up mini flags from the Office of Institutional Diversity and to place them as they visit each location.
This family-friendly block party will celebrate the announcement of the MOJA Arts Festival’s 40th anniversary season and include outdoor dining, live music, dancing, and artisans and crafts vendors.
