Drink Up Week is finally here and we have a feeling it’ll be the toast of the town.

Here’s the tea — today through Friday, July 26, we’re celebrating the entrepreneurs, mixologists, venues, and beverages that make Charleston go ‘round.

City Editor Erika is excited about half-priced bottles of wine at Iron Rose this Thursday evening. There will also be live music, which will make the perfect wine down, post-work activity.

City Editor Callie can’t wait for the $12 Laloma cocktail she’s going to snag at Bumpa’s — it includes tequila, grapefruit juice, lime, simple syrup, and soda. It will pair great with the Carolina Fries and girls night out.

Development
  • Summerville is about to get the largest pool in the Charleston area. Lennar behind Summers Corner, a master-planned community, has plans for a $30 million pool club. The amenities include four swimming areas, waterslides, restaurants, an adults-only tiki bar, and a clubhouse. The earliest the club could open is next summer. (The Post and Courier)

  • Get ready to spice up your life. James Beard Award winner Meherwan Irani just opened Spicewalla at 49 John St. The shop sells small batch, fresh spices from around the world and is open every day from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Eat
  • The Dunlin, a waterfront hotel opening on Johns Island next month, has named Michael DeCicco as its executive chef. DeCicco’s experience includes training at The Culinary Institute of America and helping a Florida restaurant earn a Michelin star. (The Post and Courier)

  • Get this. The Charleston Firebreathers, a dragon boat team part of the Charleston Paddle Club, have qualified to compete in an international competition in Italy in September. The club is looking for additional support. (WCSC)

  • Can you believe it? For a second consecutive year, RentCafe named the Holy City as the number one city for renters. According to the national renter assistance + apartment search website, this is due to our “highly-ranked local economy and affordability.” See the full list. (WCIV)

  • Grab your dancing shoes and partner. This Friday, July 26, Moonlight Mixers returns to the Folly Beach Pier from 7 to 10 p.m. DJ Bill Shelton will provide tunes like oldies and beach music. Tickets start at $10.
Community
  • Last week, The Citadel unveiled a portrait of former mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., who served the longest term in Charleston from 1975 until 2016. The portrait is part of The Citadel’s “Distinguished Alumni” gallery. Riley, Jr. graduated from the college in 1964. (WCBD)

  • Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will return to the Lowcountry on Feb. 25 + 26 at the Gaillard. The dancers will perform new works plus classics including “Revelations.” Tickets start at $29.
