If you haven’t yet heard of “set-jetting” — a travel trend that’s taking the globe by storm — consider this your introduction.
Set-jetting is traveling to locations because of the iconic TV shows and movies that were filmed there. We’re not just talking about the production sets of LA or NYC; we mean “Jurassic Park” filming locations in Hawaii and iconic “Game of Thrones” spots across Ireland, Iceland, and Croatia.
But there are also plenty of remarkable filming locations across the contiguous 48 states. Cinephiles, take note of the TV shows and movies below + start planning a road trip to their filming locations.
Greenville, SC
Although there aren’t many TV shows and movies that have been filmed in Greenville proper (though not for lack of trying), the Upstate has seen its fair share of Hollywood lights.
“Leatherheads”: Calhoun Hotel in Anderson and the Westin Poinsett in Greenville were featured in this 2008 George Clooney film.
“The Abyss”: The Cherokee Nuclear Station near Gaffney was featured in this James Cameron sci-fi movie.
“Deliverance”: Cue the banjo music. This 1972 film features shots of river rapids in both South Carolina + Georgia.
“The Last of the Mohicans”: This 1992 blockbuster was filmed throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains, including Chimney Rock State Park, the Biltmore Estate, and a slew of waterfalls located in DuPont State Forest.
“A Biltmore Christmas”: As the name suggests, this 2023 Hallmark movie was filmed at the historic Biltmore House, featuring shots throughout the property.
“Dirty Dancing”: The 1987 classic was shot at Lake Lure in Rutherford County, ~45 minutes from downtown Asheville.
The iconic Southgate Shopping Center opened in 1957.

Everything you need to know about the REAL ID deadline
Beginning on May 7, 2025 you will not be able to board a domestic flight without a REAL ID. | Graphic by 6AM City
The real REAL ID deadline is quickly approaching. After being pushed back for over a decade, the Dept. of Homeland Security’s most recent extension of the deadline brings it to May 7, 2025. What does this mean for you? You’ll need to get a new, special ID in order to travel domestically. Before we tell you how to get one, let’s dive into the why you’ll need one.
The REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005 to “set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver’s licenses and identification cards.” As a result, individuals must meet a minimum security standard to receive a state-issued driver’s license and identification card — and these must be used when taking a domestic flight or accessing federal facilities.
Are you REAL ID ready? Take this 30-second quiz to find out, or check your current driver’s license or state ID — if it has a star in the upper right-hand corner, you’re all set. To learn how to get a REAL ID, go to your state’s driver’s licensing agency website.
