The National Medal of Honor Center for Leadership has unveiled plans to build a $75 million, 50,000-sqft training center and immersive visitor experience at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant. The announcement was made during a recent Leadership and Valor Dinner aboard the USS Yorktown.

The National Medal of Honor Center for Leadership, an organization dedicated to cultivating leadership through the core values of Medal of Honor recipients, aims to bring these stories to life through state-of-the-art exhibits and interactive experiences. Medal of Honor is the nation’s highest military award for bravery.

Key features of the center’s guest experience:
  • Hear inspiring stories | Visitors will learn about the personal accounts of Medal of Honor recipients and how their values shaped their decisions during moments of great challenge.
  • Explore leadership and ethics | Immersive exhibits will explore concepts of citizenship and ethical decision-making
  • Honor Medal of Honor Recipients | The Center will provide a space for reflection on the sacrifices made by the recipients.

“We are honored that Mount Pleasant will be home to this nationally significant center,” said Mayor Will Haynie — who also serves on the Center’s Board of Directors.

“The Center for Leadership will not only have a profound impact on our local community, but it will also serve as a national driver of leadership and character development. It will enrich our town culturally and economically while reinforcing the values that unite us as Americans.”

The project, designed by Charleston-based Glick Boehm and constructed by Atlanta-based Choate Construction, is set to begin construction in 2025, with the grand opening anticipated in 2027.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Erika

Good morning, Charleston. Today marks my last day at the bottom of your newsletter for a little while, but I’ll be back the week after next — I’m getting married this weekend.

Last week, Callie and I went on our final outing before the big day, enjoying Estadio’s new lunch service and marveling at their incredible Halloween decor for the Espookio popup bar. I loved the Chirizo a la Sidra Montadito.
