We’ve got a tie.
Winner: Poogan’s Porch
This beloved restaurant tied for the winning spot with 37.2% of voters choosing this local gem.
Thanks to reader Cameron O. for nominating this Queen Street restaurant. Did you know? This Victorian-era private home was originally built in 1891 and became a restaurant in 1976.
Winner: The John Bickley House
Our other winner was nominated by reader Andrea W. This home has three-sided piazzas, which is unusual in Charleston. This feature was constructed so that John Bickley could take advantage of the Coming’s Creek view, as the western end of his property was on the marshes of this creek.

The first permanent settlement in SC. | Photo by CHStoday team
Get in, Charleston. We’re taking a field trip to Charles Towne Landing located in West Ashley. This historic site is where English settlers first landed and where the first permanent European settlement in the state was established.
City Editor Erika here — history is right in our backyard. As a Charleston native, I fondly recall school field trips here, and I’m sure many locals share similar memories. Recently, I spent a morning at the park with Park Manager David Baker to explore its offerings and learn what’s new.
Keep reading to see just a few things that I learned on my trip to the park.
Animal Forest
As Charleston’s only zoo, it houses the species of animals that lived in the area during the early days of English settlement at this site.
Coming soon: Look forward to a new bobcat exhibit, projected to open in spring 2025.
A cute custom gift under $20 — we like this custom name necklace and this minimalist personalized wallet. Personalize it just for them and watch their face light up when they open it. You’re so thoughtful.
Happy almost weekend, Charleston — it’s Friday the 13th.
It was so fun getting to preview By the Way earlier this week. I’m still thinking about Chef Marcus Shell’s food, especially the steak frites and the fried oysters and caviar.
