News Notes

Closing

Barsa Tapas Lounge & Bar, a restaurant operating for the past 14 years on Upper King, announced its closure. The final day of service will be this Saturday, Dec. 21, from 4 to 10 p.m. The restaurant will move forward with new ownership in 2025.

Open

Broken Leash, a new dog park and bar, is now open on University Boulevard in North Charleston. It offers two fenced-in play areas, one for small dogs under 25 pounds and one for larger dogs, monitored by “rufferees.” The bar serves local craft beers and wine. (Charleston City Paper)

Civic

The City of Charleston shared updates on The Concord Street Pump Station Upfit Project, aimed at reducing flooding. New stormwater and dewatering pumps are being installed from Meeting to Market Street. The project is expected to be finished by Spring 2025.

Development

Johns Island will soon get a new fire station on Maybank Highway after City of Charleston council members approved the project. Fire Station 23 will include a training room, three bays, and two units. Groundbreaking is expected for early next year, with completion by the end of 2025. (WCSC)

Real Estate

A West Ashley home in The Crescent neighborhood was just listed. The six-bedroom home, built in 1952, was restored in the 90s and renovated in 2021. Property features include a gym, saltwater pool, and guest house. (Charleston Regional Business Journal)

Mount Pleasant residents Jeff and Lori Slane were recently in the audience of the “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Comedian Fred Armisen who was a guest on the show, gifted Jeff a festive sweater featuring a kitten and flashing lights. Check out the clip. (WCBD)

Community

Even libraries need a holiday break. The Charleston County Library will be closed from Tuesday, Dec. 24 through Thursday, Dec. 26 to observe Christmas — plus another closure on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1. Before you book it to the library, check out its schedule.
