Restaurant Week South Carolina starts today. For the next 11 days, 50+ Charleston restaurants are taking part, each offering special deals to bring locals through the door.
Caution if you’re bringing little ones: this place is not named after the viral internet trend. But with three courses for $45, including oysters, it’s definitely worth the risk.
If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to go to Hall’s, here it is. A three-course meal for $70 has an entree choice between filet mignon and blackened Scottish salmon.
Ben & Jerry’s is returning to the Isle of Palms with a new store opening this spring. The community’s previous location on Ocean Boulevard closed down in 2022, but locals and beach-goers can prepare their sweet teeth once again. Patrick here — I recommend the Phish Food flavor. (Post and Courier)
State
The average electric bill in South Carolina could go up nearly $20 per month starting in July. That’s because Dominion Energy wants to generate an additional $322 million in annual revenue to help with system upgrades and offset damage caused by Hurricane Helene, per company officials. Financial assistance is available. (WCIV)
Community
Collaborative groups in North Charleston are planning to build new recreation fields in the Chicora neighborhood. The city has already contributed $1.25 million, and the other organizations involved are trying to raise the remaining $3.25 million for a baseball field, a softball field, and an open-air training space. Arts
In the new year, lots of people set the goal of making more friends and meeting like-minded people. For the artsy folks, the North Charleston Artist Guild is hosting a free art supply swap on Thursday, Jan. 22 at Park Circle Community Building.
On This Day
Today, Jan. 8 is the birthday of two late music icons: Elvis Presley and David Bowie. It’s Shirely Bassey’s 89th birthday, too. You can honor their legacies by catching a show at one of the Lowcountry’s fabulous live music venues.
