At the start of 2026, sourdough is reaching new heights in popularity, and so is interest in making your own.
If you’re among those baking some new habits into your life via flour and yeast, here are a few ways to get in on the action in Charleston:
Let expert instructors guide you at The Chef’s Collective, who are ready to get hands-on and give you all the info you need to start your sourdough journey.
Beginners are also welcome at Moonrise Sourdough, as are more seasoned bakers. In 4.5 hours, you’ll have the basics down, and you’ll get to sample your work before you leave.
For those who prefer their loaves made by an expert, there are a bunch of spots around town to get your fill of doughy goodness. We’re fans of Baguette Magic’s daily-baked loaves, the rotating specialty sourdough at Grit Bakery, and the Lowcountry-inspired benne seed sourdough at Welton’s Tiny Bakeshop.
