Development

Plans for a new 300-room Mount Pleasant hotel are moving forward. The town approved the design for Bennett Hospitality’s Grand Patriot Hotel. The six-story hotel will include a 3,600-sqft ballroom, bars and restaurants, and a pool. Next up: technical reviews before permits are issued.

Festival

Rain, rain go away. The Sand +Sea Festival has been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, March 1 to avoid the forecasted rain. The family-friendly event will feature 85+ vendors, live music, surfboard painting, kids’ activities, and the Sand Sculpting Competition.

Announced

We spoke too soon. Harlow + Pearl, a viral local coffee shop, announced that its residency at the Pinnacle building at Morrison Yard is no longer happening. Head to the comments of their post and let them know where you’d like to see them pop up next.

Eat

Belle Hall in Mount Pleasant is now home to Paris Baguette. The spot offers cake, pastries, sandwiches, salads, and drinks that are too pretty to eat, but we’ll give them a try anyway. Take a look at some of the stunning menu items.

Opening

Get ready to bust a move. The Drop In, a local movement studio known for its music-driven workout classes, opens tomorrow, Feb. 21. The two-story, 2,700-sqft space is located at 1118 King St. and offers mat, dance, and cycle-based classes.

Real Estate

A taste of “Wuthering Heights” awaits at a rain-swept private island for sale in the UK. Once owned by the royal family, Ynys Gifftan has no electricity. That won’t be a problem at this recently listed Daniel Island home, fit with Southern charm and an elegant courtyard. (The Times)

So long, Winter Olympics — ski you in four years. | Photo via Pexels

Shocking upsets, personal confessions, and cheating accusations. Any guesses what we’re talking about? This year’s 2026 Winter Olympics have been full of controversy, and the theatrics aren’t over yet.

The Closing Ceremony takes place this Sunday, Feb. 22, and WCBD will be covering the spectacle. After that, if you’re going to miss the drama, here’s an on-stage production we’ve got our eye on: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. This Broadway musical is packed with laugh-out-loud humor and celebrates what it means to be your true self, come victory or defeat.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Callie

It’s food rec Friday, where I share my food and restaurant recommendations.

If you haven’t been to King BBQ, what are you waiting for?

It’s Chef Shuai Wang’s North Charleston restaurant, described as Chinatown barbecue with southern smoke. Everything I tried was delish. If you go, here are some must-order items: fried corn nugs with soy butter, fried smokey fried chicken sandwich, and the Sichuan collards.
A delicious spread of comfort food on a wooden table includes braised greens, spicy rice, corn on the cob, ribs, a burger with chips, and lime wedges.
