A Shem Sunset could definitely inspire some flowy and relaxing tunes. | Photo by Chrissy F.
Living in the Lowcountry is special and can be inspirational. Which is why it’s not hard to believe that Charleston could inspire a song (or two or three).
When I cross the IOP Connector, I can’t help but roll my windows down and blast some Darius Rucker.
We asked you to share your favorite Lowcountry-inspired songs. Keep reading to see a few that will put Carolina on your mind.
“Bay Street” | Congress The Band | This relatively new, Charleston-based band blends indie, Americana, and Southern rock. You may recognize their songs “Out The Door” and “Winyah” from a live show at The Refinery or The Windjammer.
“Sink ‘Em Low” | Ranky Tanky | This Gullah music group from the Lowcountry seamlessly incorporates the Gullah culture + history in this song with the sound of jazz, rhythm and blues. The song is full of Charleston soul.

Fun fact: The 3.5-mile-long island has around 1,100 residences. Find out where The Wall Street Journal is talking about and what else it has to say about this historic beach town.

Out with the ramps and in with the roundabouts. SC Department of Transportation shared that roundabouts are becoming more common across the state and replacing interstate interchanges. Berkeley County is following suit by constructing a traffic circle at Exit 187 on I‑26, which connects to Ridgeville Road. (WCBD)
Ranked
South Carolina clocked in at No. 24 on a new WalletHub ranking of the best states for working from home. The report weighed factors like internet costs, home size, and cybersecurity, but we’d argue there’s one more metric that matters: great outdoor work spots. Luckily, Charleston has lots of spots that deliver.

It’s a local oyster topped with peanut butter whiskey, raspberry jelly, and a toasted sourdough whipped cream.
Don’t knock it until you try it. You may be surprised how well these toppings pair with a briny mollusk.
