Did you know that the Charleston County Government is collaborating with Green Energy Biofuel to provide cooking oil disposal containers at 8 county-operated convenience centers?

The free service to citizens is at no cost to Charleston County through its partnership with Green Energy Biofuel.

Green Energy Biofuel is an SC-based alternative fuels company that refines and recycles used cooking oil and other food products from kitchens + food manufacturersresulting in a biodiesel product.

What’s considered improper disposal of cooking oil?

  • Sewer drains
  • Kitchen drains
  • Ditches
  • Anything that leads to our waterways

As oil floats on the surface of water, it acts as a barrier preventing the transfer of oxygen to the water. These oils never safely dissolve in water. The oils are either removed by humans, settle onto wildlife or plants, or bio-degrade after many years into toxic by-products.

Have questions about dumping cooking oil in the county? Give the Charleston County Environmental Management Department a call at (843) 720- 7111.
