A pickleball club is headed for the Lowcountry, and it’s kind of a big dill. Crush Yard aims to open this spring off Highway 17 in North Mount Pleasant, so we thought we’d show you around.

The ~40,000-sqft space will be open daily and features eight indoor courts, a restaurant with elevated pub food, a bar, and an outdoor lounge. Holy City Brewing created a microbrew for Crush Yard called Dinker’s Delight and Summerville’s One Nation Coffee will also be available on-site.

While we wait for Crush Yard to open, here are a few fun facts about this popular pastime:
🥒 Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports
in the country and is a cross between tennis, ping pong, badminton, and wiffle ball.
🥒 It was invented in 1965
by Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum near Seattle, WA.
🥒 Joan Pritchard named pickleball
after the rowing term “pickle boat,” aka a crew made up of leftover rowers, because it throws together elements of different games.
