You’ll get a kick out of this, CHS. While plans were originally fumbled last year due to the pandemic, CSU employees + students will soon be catching sights of the highly-anticipated intramural space project.

The intramural space will offer

  • Artificial turf and outdoor lighting
  • A football field
  • Two new hard-surface basketball courts
  • A band viewing tower for marching band rehearsals

Outdoor lighting will facilitate nighttime activities for students.

The complex will also host new seasonal sports such as soccer, softball and ultimate frisbee. Expected to host the Buccaneers around late spring 2022, this is a high-priority, $1.8 million dollar project.

The pandemic wasn’t the only factor that halted the project. Though trees in and around Buc Park were marked for removal at the beginning of last year to assist construction efforts, a colony of endangered wood storks nest in the area from February to September. University officials, SC Department of Natural Resources, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services opted to postpone the project until the endangered bird had migrated.
