There’s been a lot of change at Folly Beach Pier , so we’re keeping you in the loop. Charleston County Parks has reopened the pier following parking lot renovations. This was the final stage of the two-year reconstruction project.
The new structure will be open from 8 a.m. to sunset and features a diamond-shaped platform, fishing stations, a gift and tackle shop, restrooms and showers, benches and shade structures, and Pier 101 Restaurant & Bar .
Follow the timeline:
- 1931: The original Folly Beach Pier is built with palmetto tree logs and is 97-ft long and 120-ft wide.
- 1960: The pier and pavilion reopen as the Ocean Plaza with a boardwalk and amusement rides after a fire in 1957 .
- January 1977: The pier burns down .
- July 1995: Charleston County Parks opens Edwin S. Taylor Folly Beach Fishing Pier at 25-ft wide and 1,045-ft long.
- October 2020: The pier closes for the reconstruction project .
- December 2022: The new Folly Beach Pier opens at 25-ft wide and 1,049-ft long.
- January 2023: The pier closes for parking lot renovations and Folly Pier Fest is announced.
- February 2023: Charleston County Parks reopens the pier.

Good news: The pier is expected to remain open now that renovations are complete and the new structure has a longer lifespan of 65+ years. See you in Folly Beach.
