Warmer temperatures and later sunsets are back; it’s official: spring is in blossom. What better way to celebrate the beginning of a new season than with a cocktail created + crafted locally?
City Editor Callie here. I stopped by The Longboard , an island-inspired restaurant + bar on Sullivan’s Island, to learn how to make the False Horizon — a fun and refreshing spring cocktail. Let me tell you, it’s good… like really good.
The Longboard’s Beverage Director Billy Rockefeller created the drink and said he was inspired by some of his personal favorite liquors and ingredients that awaken several taste buds. In his words, “The cocktail is a balance of juicy, bitter, acidic, herbal, and a touch of smoke to really round things off. Adding the salt rim as a flavor enhancer only makes each aspect of the drink pop even more.”

False Horizon recipe
Ingredients
- 1 ½ ounces reposado tequila (can substitute blanco)
- 1/4 ounce Aperol
- 1/10 ounce mezcal
- 1 ounce blood orange juice
- 1/2 ounce lime juice
- 1/2 ounce sage agave
Instructions
- Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker
- Shake, shake, shake
- Serve over ice in a glass with a salted rim
- Garnish with fresh sage
