Lowcountry brewery’s new beer honors sailors

A brewery and museum released a new beer that honors sailors and gives back to the community.

Westbrook Brewing Co. + the USS Yorktown Foundation have teamed up to release the Shore Leave Lager, a brew that pays homage to the sailors of the USS Yorktown and Laffey. The name comes from times when sailors were allowed to break and go ashore during World War II.

Shore Leave is currently available at Westbrook Brewery and will be available at Lowes Foods stores on Monday, May 20.

Part of every beer sale will be donated to the USS Yorktown Foundation to support its mission of “Inspiring children, visitors, and the community by promoting America’s longstanding traditions of service, leadership, duty, and sacrifice through exhibits, education, programming, and community outreach.”

On Thursday, May 23, to celebrate the official release, Westbrook will host a Shore Leave Luau from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be a giveaway to the first 50 people who purchase a four-pack of the beer.
