$13.7 million investment coming to Mt. Pleasant

A global shipping company has announced a $13.7 million investment in Mt. Pleasant. Holy ship, that’s a lot of cash. 🚢

MSC USAcargo shipping division of Switzerland-based MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company — plans to expand its Mt. Pleasant branch at 700 Watermark Blvd. by 25,000 sqft. The company is also relocating corporate functions from its headquarters in the Northeast.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits and a $1.2 million Set Aside grant to support preparation + construction in Charleston County.

Gov. Henry McMaster spoke about the investment , saying that the expansion emphasizes the international reach of SC Ports.

In a 2019 Economic Impact Study , SC Ports had a $7.8 billion economic impact on the Lowcountry, including 27,700+ jobs and $1.5 billion in labor income — responsible for generating one in 10 jobs in SC.
