It’s graduation season, and we’ve got a quick rundown on commencement schedules, photo ops, and things to do with visitors with a dash of nostalgia for students and alum. We rounded up a handful of universities in Charleston with upcoming graduation ceremonies and outlined a few fun activities.
🎓 College of Charleston
Undergrads at CofC will graduate in the Cistern Yard on Fri., May 6 at 4 p.m. and Sat. May 7 at 10 a.m. and graduate students will walk across the stage at 4 p.m. on Sat., May 7.
- Pass under the arch at Porter’s Lodge: Students pass under the arch on their first day and exit the Cistern Yard through the same arch after graduation.
- Visit college bars: Check out Uptown Social , A.C.’s Bar & Grill , and Silver Dollar .
- Spring Alumni Weekend : Alum, stick around for Biscuits and Bloody Marys and A Charleston Affair reception on May 13-14.
The Citadel graduation ceremonies will be held on Sat., May 7 at McAlister Field House. The South Carolina Corps of Cadets will graduate at 9 a.m. and grads and undergrads will receive their diplomas at 3:30 p.m.
- Head to college bar Big John’s Tavern : Charleston’s oldest tavern closed after a fire, but was brought back to life by students of The Citadel.
- Long Gray Line: Watch the Graduation Parade on Fri., May 6 at 3:45 p.m.
- Garden Party: Meet the president and first lady of The Citadel and enjoy light refreshments on Fri., May 6.
🎓 Charleston Southern University
CSU will hold a graduation ceremony at North Charleston Coliseum on Sat., May 7 at 10 a.m., celebrating the Class of 2022 + graduates from May 2022, Dec. 2021, and Aug. 2021. The College of Education Graduate Programs Commencement will be held at Lightsey Chapel on Fri., May 6 at 5 p.m.
- The first Bucky the Mascot reveal: Snap a photo with Bucky , CSU’s biggest fan and cheerleader.
- Bucky’s Bon Voyage: Attend a lunch for graduates and their guests on Fri., May 6 from 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m.
Nursing Pinning Ceremony: Head to Lightsey Chapel for this event on Thurs., May 5 at 2 p.m.
🎓 Medical University of South Carolina

MUSC will hold its commencement on Sat., May 21 at 10 a.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
- Picnic at Brittlebank Park: Pack all your favorites for a scenic picnic in the park and be sure to get some grad photos on the dock.
- Tour the Urban Farm : Schedule a tour of the farm where students, faculty, staff, and the community can learn about the connection between food and health.
