The Alley off Upper King could be replaced by a hotel . The Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals recently approved a 175-room hotel for 131 Columbus St. — where the bowling alley is located.
The Alley opened in 2012 as downtown’s first public bowling alley since the 1960s, and Bill Murray has since been a regular. The bowling alley includes an arcade, restaurant, event venue + sports bar. 🎳
The proposed development was approved after being deemed a “full-service hotel,” including a meeting space and restaurant. The site is likely beneficial for tourism lodging, since it is located along the future Lowcountry Lowline park.
The Alley is open and will remain open for the foreseeable future.
