MUSC Health is planning big moves for the future in a couple different locations across the state. Aligned with their tripartite mission to provide quality healthcare education, research, and patient care, MUSC’s projects seek to improve the accessibility of healthcare, and ultimately, the lives of South Carolina residents.

First, a new medical center is coming to the Nexton development in Summerville in 2022 to serve the ~29% of MUSC Health patients that live in Berkeley County. The new, modern 40-acre hospital campus will be built next to Berkeley County Park and feature a 5-story, 300,000+-sqft. hospital facility, as well as biking/hiking trails, common areas, and even conveniently located rental homes for hospital staff. Officially named MUSC Community Hospital at Nexton, this location is expected to deliver the same state-of-the-art facilities and revered care to both inpatients + outpatients.

Additionally, MUSC is teaming up with their long-standing partner Beaufort Memorial Hospital to bring a microhospital to Bluffton residents, featuring 20 beds to treat adults + children for high-quality care and specialized services — perfect for the exponentially growing Bluffton area. The microhosptial will differ from an urgent care or clinic in its capacity to treat patients on a smaller scale, promoting closer staff/patient relationships for the best care results.
