Do you know the difference between a smoothie bowl + an açaí bowl?
Açaí bowls have a thick, sorbet-like consistency. The açaí bowl base is typically made from açaí fruit pulp, nut milk, dates, and other fruits + topped with an infinite number of combinations like granola, nut butter, banana slices, and coconut flakes.
(This is different from a smoothie bowl, which may sport similar toppings but consists of different fruits and yields a more liquid-like consistency.)
Are you ready to dig in? Here are six spots around Charleston for you to get your açaí + smoothie bowl fix.

Shem Creek is home to many water birds. | Photo by @bonniemariie
Did you know? The SC Coast is home to about 65 different species of water birds. Seabirds like pelicans, gulls, terns + skimmersseek habitats on isolated islands off of the coast that are free from predators. The most active colonies of these birds are located in Charleston County.
Editor’s pick: I tend to hang onto tokens + small treasures that aren’t worth much to anyone else but are priceless to me — like sea glass, ticket stubs, and stuffed animals. 🧸
An event coming up at Brookgreen Gardens recently caught my eye. The Land of Stuff is a two-hour workshop on Wed., Sept. 21 during which participants will write about childhood memories + special objects and create a keepsake box full of mementos brought from home.
