Ever thought about taking your cooking skills to the next level? Stir things up and book a local cooking class to try your hand at being a Lowcountry chef. Keep reading for five Charleston cooking classes worth checking out.

Pro tip: These classes can book up months in advance, so secure your spot early.

The Cooking School at Zero George
Enjoy an intimate experience learning from Executive Chef Petrillo and Sous Chef Chavis at this award-winning Charleston staple. Attendees will experience a multi-course meal with wine pairings. Classes are typically small and can be arranged for groups of up to eight guests.

Undiscovered Charleston
For the full Holy City experience, this class combines a guided walking tour with a three-course cooking class. You’ll learn about Charleston’s history and culinary traditions while preparing a Lowcountry-inspired meal.

The Carolina Cookery
During this two-hour experience, Chef Rashaunda Grant leads hands-on cooking classes featuring some of Charleston’s most iconic dishes. Carolina Cookery specializes in Gullah-Geechee cuisine, showcasing the rich flavors of the Lowcountry. Options include private small-group classes, open-seat sessions, and workshops with demos and tastings.

Chef’s Collective
This interactive workshop space hosts hands-on cooking classes led by expert chefs. You can book a private session or join upcoming classes like A Taste of Thailand, Knife Skills 101, and Classic French Cuisine. The class lineup changes often, so check the schedule for new offerings.

In the Kitchen with Chef Bob Waggoner
With a background in world travels, Chef Bob Waggoner brings a global flair to his cooking classes. He walks guests through each course, creating a hands-on experience paired with expert instruction. Psst... His schedule may be tight this month due to travel, but spots should open back up this summer.

The City of Charleston is teaming up with Youth Volunteer Corps to offer a Summer of Service.

Events will run for four weeks between June, July, and August.

The program includes leadership and event days to help coach children in our area to be community leaders.
  • Leadership days | 7th and 8th graders
  • Event days | All Youth Volunteer Corps members
Let’s talk logistics. Most of the events are at CE Williams North Campus, 1776 William Kennerty Dr. However, some events will be off-site for the volunteer opportunity. It is suggested to pack a lunch and refillable water bottle for the day. A light snack will be provided at events.

If you know of youth looking to participate, they should fill out a parent wavier with their family.

From the editor
Alright y’all, I hope I was not the only person who noticed this.

When I was at the beach this past weekend with my friends, we discovered that the sand was covered in way more shells than normal. Our hypothesis was the storms from last week stirred everything up and led to them being pushed onto shore. Does anybody know the answer or have another hypothesis? Let me know.
