Coastal Community Foundation (CCF), the largest community organization in SC, is helping young adults get to college and excel through it.
The nonprofit’s Reverend Pinckney College Readiness and Scholars programs promote access to higher education for local African American students. These programs were created by anonymous donors to honor the legacy of the late Rev. Clementa Pinckney, a victim of the Emanuel AME Church shooting.
During the application process, CCF looks for students who embody Rev. Pinckney’s legacy as a visionary Black leader. Here’s how the programs work:
The College Readiness Program offers high school students in Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper counties tailored mentorship and resources throughout the college application process, beginning their junior year.
Those who complete the College Readiness Program can then apply for the Scholarship Program, designed to support students throughout college with scholarships, professional development, networking sessions, mental health workshops, and more.

My recent self-care activity was trying out a pottery class at Public Works Art Center in Summerville. My first project was making a bowl and spoon; working with my hands was relaxing and satisfying.
