YALLFest, Charleston’s Young Adult Book Festival, is back for its 12th year this Friday, Nov. 10-Saturday, Nov. 11. Look forward to over 70 authors and a packed schedule of panels + signings that will spark your imagination.

  • YALLCrawl | Friday, Nov. 10 | 2 p.m. | Locations vary | Free | Spend your afternoon crawling up different local businesses. Select authors, including Amélie Wen Zhao + Adam Silvera, will sign their books in shops along King Street.

It’s time to hit the rink, Charleston. Skate the Stadium, a custom-built synthetic ice rink at Credit One Stadium, is back on Friday, Nov. 24 and will be open Thursdays-Sundays through December.

Celebrate the holiday season in a winter wonderland featuring cozy fire pits and concessions (s’mores kits, cinnamon sugar pretzels, hot chocolate, seasonal brews, specialty cocktails, and more).

Civic
  • The Charleston mayoral race continues with a runoff. Since neither William Cogswell nor John Tecklenburg received over half the vote, a runoff election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 21. (WCBD)
Real Estate
  • Referendum rejected. 54.5% of Isle of Palms residents voted against a 1,600 cap on vacation rentals for owners who aren’t local, according to unofficial results. All precincts were reporting as of 5 p.m. yesterday. The results are set to be certified today by the state election commission. (WCBD)
Outdoors
  • Make way for turtles. Over 30 turtle lights will be installed along East Arctic and East Ashley Avenues in Folly Beach. These amber-colored LED lights will help guide hatchlings back to the ocean. (WCSC)

  • $70 million. That’s how much voters approved in a parks bond referendum. The program will fund projects + upgrades like recreation centers and new parks. (The Post and Courier)

‘Tis the season: Charleston’s Holiday Market Returns to the Convention Center

It’s time to make your list and check it twice. This weekend you can get ahead of the shopping rush at Charleston’s Holiday Market. Christmas music and magic will fill the air as you visit the artisans and vendors who will pack the Charleston Area Convention Center.

Explore aisle after aisle of hand-made jewelry and clothes, home decor, specialty foods and drinks. Bring the kids along, they can visit with a special guest who is making the trip all the way from the North Pole.

Parking is free but you’ll need tickets to get in. Get your tickets for $8 online or $10 at the door, kids get in for $1, and those under six are free.

Why, none other than Charleston’s own Jonathan Sanchez of Blue Bicycle Books. He didn’t do it alone — authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl also helped begin what would become the South’s largest annual young adult book festival.
