Last year, you helped us name Tideland Brewing the best brewery. This year, we asked you to share your favorite barbecue restaurant in Charleston. Now — thanks to you and the help of a random generator — we have the official lineupfor our bracket.
Who’s in the running
Going head-to-head in the first round are:
Swig & Swine and Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint | Two heavy hitters faceoff in the first round: Swig & Swine, which has three locations across the Lowcountry, and Martin’s BBQ, which serves West Tennessee-style whole BBQ in James Island.
Home Team BBQ and Palmira Barbecue | Seasoned vet Home Team BBQ has multiple locations and will faceoff against the new kid on the block, Palmira Barbecue, which recently opened in West Ashley.
Melvin’s BBQ and Lewis Barbecue | South Carolina’s original family of mustard-based BBQ, Melvin’s BBQ, will go up against Lewis Barbecue, which specializes in central Texas-style barbecue.
Bessinger’s BBQ and Rodney Scott’s BBQ | Bessinger’s BBQ, a staple in West Ashley, will faceoff with Rodney Scott’s BBQ, which serves the heat on Upper King Street.
How it works
Beginning today, we will host several voting rounds within our newsletters and social channels to determine Charleston’s best BBQ. Who moves on is up to you. Vote for your favorites, and the restaurant with more votes will move on. Simple as that. We’ll go until we have a champion, which will be announced in our Wednesday, March 27 newsletter. You will be able to voteonce per round.
How to participate
Vote for the BBQ restaurant you’d like to see advance to round two. You can vote for all four spots or as little as one. Once we count all the votes, we’ll share an updated bracket and new poll in an upcoming newsletter.
