Charleston Gaillard Center | 95 Calhoun St. | The center was named after a previous mayor of Charleston. It has year-round music, dance, comedy, theater, and family programs. Upcoming shows:

Development
Charleston County is working to refresh a busy West Ashley intersection. An old building was demolished at the corner of Wappoo Road and Savannah Highway, and there are now plans for a park and new businesses. There are also plans to update the intersection with more lanes and new sidewalks. (WCIV)

$6 million. That’s the price tag on a new 6,800-sqft James Island fire station. The project includes the demolition of the existing station. The station is expected to be completed in the fall of 2025. (SC Biz News)
Traffic
Safety for students. Leaders from Charleston County School District and the Town of Mount Pleasant are collaborating to make a crosswalk at Lucy Beckham safer. A busy crosswalk on Whipple Road connects the school to its baseball field. Leaders believe the area would benefit from additional lighting. (WCIV)

Warrior Surf Foundation’s (WSF) eighth annual golf tournament will take place Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, at Wild Dunes Resort’s Harbor Course. Proceeds support WSF’s Surf Therapy Program, which aims to help Veterans struggling with PTSD and other mental health challenges. Plan Ahead
Mark your calendar, because the Charleston Beach Olympics return Saturday, June 8. Prepare for a day of friendly competitions like sack races and relays. The annual event held on Sullivan’s Island supports Pattison’s Academy’s summer campers. Pattison’s Academy provides programs and support to children and young adults with disabilities.
