When you think of Charleston — history, culture, and architecture probably come to mind. It wouldn’t be out of the ordinary to walk down a cobblestone alleyway, come upon a historic home, and spot a lush secret garden.
What if we told you that you could take a closer look?The Fall Tours, an annual event by the Preservation Society of Charleston, is coming up next month, and tickets are still available for select programs.
From Wednesday, Oct. 9 to Saturday, Nov. 2, attendees will learn about local architecture, landscapes, neighborhoods, and cultural heritage and experience it all first-hand. Pro tip: Wear comfortable walking shoes, trust us.
This year’s offerings include a wide range of experiences like the Insider’s Garden Tours, the Insider’s History and Architecture Tours, and Specialty Hard Hat Tour.
About the organization
The Preservation Society of Charleston is the nation’s first preservation organization. This nonprofit is dedicated to protecting the city’s unique character, quality of life, and diverse neighborhoods.
If you’re interested in volunteering, complete a Volunteer Application. Volunteers will learn more about preservation, get an invitation to the annual Volunteer Appreciation Party + receive two VIP tickets to any Saturday House & Gardens Tour of their choice.

We’re excited to share that downtown eatery The Pass has reopened its dining room after temporarily closing due to a car accident back in February. Stop by Wednesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and enjoy a sandwich — we’ll take the Americano, please.
Opening
Edisto Island Library, located at Trinity Church, will open after being closed for renovations, including new paint and furniture. The community is invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. Fun fact: The library was the first branch to open in the Charleston County Public Library system in 1931.
Concert
The Palmetto Jam will return on Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park. Live music will begin at 11 a.m. from Matt Jordan and Jeff Bateman, and from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Idlewild Revival will give a musical tribute to the Allman Brothers. Tickets start at $20 per car.
Tech
Charleston County teamed up with Georgia Tech’s Partnership for Inclusive Innovation to use AI to help prepare for future major floods. The model will use data from prior storms + flooding to predict road impacts in the area. It will be implemented ahead of the 2025 peak hurricane season. (The Post and Courier)
Festival
Head to Wannamaker Park on Sunday, Oct. 6, for the annual Latin American Festival. From 12 to 5 p.m., attendees can experience Latin American and Caribbean cultures through live music, food, arts and crafts, and a salsa dance contest, and new this year is a samba dance lesson. Admission is $25 per car.

On Saturday, Sept. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m., McAllister will lead a hands-on workshop at downtown Charleston hotel The Loutrel, where attendees will learn how to craft ultra-realistic chocolate oysters using advanced coloring + texturizing techniques. No prior baking or cake decorating skills are required. Wine and light bites will be provided by The Loutrel’s Veranda Lounge.
