Get your appetite ready, Charleston. The fourth annual Holy Smokes BBQ Festival presented by Sysco is just one month away.
More than 50 of the nation’s most renowned pitmasters and chefs will flex their culinary chops on Saturday, Nov. 9. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Riverfront Park. Here’s what’s on the menu:
Four distinct barbecue villages (think: Texas, Traditional, Coastal, and “new school” flavors)
An all-you-can-eat feast featuring slow-smoked hog, pork, and beef ribs + Texas-style brisket, Lowcountry seafood staples, and more
Game on. A new 12-acre soccer facility anchored by SC Surf Soccer Club has opened in Awendaw. Phase one includes three fields, restrooms, a pavilion, and a concession area still under construction. Future phases will add parking and a Charleston Battery training facility, with full completion by summer 2025. (WCSC)

Stay alert. A tropical storm watch has been issued for parts of the SC coast. While Hurricane Milton isn’t predicted to directly hit, coastal flooding, strong winds, and potential storm conditions are expected from Wednesday through Thursday. There’s also an increased risk of rip currents along SC beaches. (WCBD)

Pho Lucky & Boba Tea recently opened on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mount Pleasant, where the former Asian Flavor used to operate. The family-owned eatery serves Vietnamese entrees like bun bo hue, dumplings, and summer rolls and is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Community
Here’s the latest chapter on the Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) system. The Edisto Island Library reopened after undergoing renovations. Plus, all CCPL branches will close next Monday, Oct. 14, for staff development and reopen the following day. (WCBD)

Daniela’s Downtown, a new market and deli, is coming to the corner of Spring and Ashley Streets. Guests will be able to order from a menu featuring deli sandwiches, salads, specialty meats, artisan cheeses, and vegan and gluten-free options. Stay tuned for an opening date.

Charleston Beer Fest returns to Riverfront Park on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 7 p.m. Enjoy craft beer, food, games, live music, and activities while supporting Palmetto Community Care, a nonprofit that assists individuals living with HIV and AIDS.
