The team behind Chubby Fish has opened a new cocktail bar, Seahorse, located right next to the seafood eatery on Coming Street. The 32-seat bar features an upstairs private events space and a Suntory highball machine, a Japanese invention that creates ultra fizzy drinks.” (The Post and Courier)
Travel
Charleston’s homeport status with Carnival Cruise Line ended in 2022, officially taking effect this week. Carnival Sunshine departed Union Pier earlier this week and will return tomorrow, Jan. 4. However, some cruises will continue to dock for day visits temporarily, a permanent decision is still pending. (WCSC)

The team behind the soon-to-open French bistro, Merci, is still working on its grand opening, but they have recently launched their market space, Petit Merci, next door to the bistro.
Petit Merci offers a rotating selection of freshly prepared items, including focaccia and other breads, soups, take-and-bake meals, pastries, fresh produce, bespoke sundries, and homewares. Coffee lovers can also enjoy coffee and espresso drinks made with beans from Petit Merci’s neighbor, Second State.
Current operating hours are Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. According to Instagram, you can indulge in local goodies again starting Wednesday, Jan. 8.

I’m still thinking about our visit to La Cave a couple of weeks ago. I just learned that the new spot was named one of the Most Beautiful Restaurants of 2024 by Robb Report. Another Charleston newcomer on the list is Legami, which I can’t wait to try.
