The Charleston Planetarium is set to open next month at the Citadel Mall, offering guests a new way to experience the stars and planets.
Never been? The planetarium is an immersive theater where the audience is surrounded by a large, domed-shaped screen that will bring space, the solar system, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) experiences to life — think: similar to virtual reality. The new spot also hopes to spark inspiration for lifelong learning.
Paul Gangarosa, a local entrepreneur, Chris Fragile, from the College of Charleston’s Department of Physics + Astronomy, and R. Scott Harris, a Planetary Geologist, make up the team behind the nonprofit Charleston Planetarium Society, making the planetarium possible.
