“You look like the Fourth of July. Makes me want a hot dog real bad.”Today, July 4, is the day of the dog — and there are tons of great places to indulge, but we’re shining a light on Mount Pleasant’s Jack’s Cosmic Dogs. The iconic hot dog stand on Highway 17 serves out-of-this-world wieners, sammies, and sundaes. Jack’s has been voted Best Hot Dog in Charleston for 24 years straight.
The fun doesn’t end today. Make plans to join Dog Fest next Saturday, July 12, from 12 to 5 p.m. Entry is free, and there will be live music, fairy hair + glitter tattoos, and free ice cream cones.

James Island is adding more housing to its community. A new four-story building will add 62 multi-family units to the already existing The Standard apartments on Maybank Highway and Promenade Vista Street. The plan also adds a walking trail + green space that will preserve grand trees, and add more shrubs. (WCSC)

Charleston’s Board of Zoning Appeals voted to advance the plan to remove two dozen protected trees on Daniel Island. Hundreds of residents submitted public comments in opposition to the tree removal, highlighting safety, aesthetics, and overdevelopment concerns. The tree removal is expected to begin in the next few weeks. (WCBD)
