Ahoy, mateys. Thinking ahead to fall fun?On Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mermaids & Mateys will return to Folly Beach to turn Center Street into a sea-inspired celebration. Look forward to browsing 70+ local vendors, the costume contest, and three stages of live music. Bonus: This year’s festival supports the Alzheimer’s Association, so you can have fun and give back at the same time.

Development
The city’s Board of Architectural Review – Large will consider a request to fully demolish the main building and a rear structure at 280 Meeting St., home to The Bicycle Shoppe. The meeting is on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 4:30 p.m. and will be live-streamed and recorded on the city’s YouTube channel.

The Days Inn on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mount Pleasant is set to be replaced with a 170-room, six-story Drury-branded hotel. This marks the hotel’s second Lowcountry location, the first on West Montague Avenue in North Charleston. (The Post and Courier)

South Carolina’s new Hands-Free Act goes into effect today, Sept. 1, banning drivers from holding phones or other devices. Warnings will be issued for the first 180 days, with fines of $100 (and points for repeat offenses) starting Feb. 28.
