Next Saturday, Sept. 20, the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium and SCDNR will host the 36th Annual Sullivan’s Island Beach Sweep from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Cannon Row near Fort Moultrie.
Fun fact: Since 1988, folks have gathered on the third Saturday in September to pick up trash from beaches and waterways as part of the International Coastal Cleanup, coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy.
The park will provide trash bags, log sheets, and grabbers for the cleanup — just bring your energy and love for the coast.

It’s almost time to enjoy more than 2,700 hand-lit candles and countless sparkling lights. I know, I know it’s September, but if you don’t get your tickets for Nights of a Thousand Candles soon, you may miss out this year. This popular event is known to sell out quickly. Festivities start on Friday, Nov. 28, and run on select dates until Sunday, Jan. 4.

Allora, a new coastal Italian concept, will open Wednesday, Oct. 1 in the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood. The spot will serve pastas, raw bar selections, and seasonal dishes, plus it will offer a rooftop terrace and streetside window where you can purchase gelato, desserts, and coffee.
